You should make sure that all systems are operating ie. motors, GOTO accuracy, GPS if fitted, and all that before going out on the field. It will help you to learn the setting up procedure too and become familiar with the scope. Also check how long the batteries last (best to get an external battery pack from BandQ or Maplins etc.).

Hi Mark,
I have been doing simulated 'sessions' during the day regarding set up to North facing, also German North etc and have been trying out the go to hand controller - pretty much up with the whole system. Have a mini power pack for power - didn't turn the go to on fri because i decided that with the moon being up and being very bright - dso's prob would not be seen at their best. Its a lovely scope and working perfectly - just need a nice clear night pref with little or no lunar interference - a dark site would be good as well

I had my best ever view of the dumbbell nebula on Friday night even though the moon was up. The moisture content in the air and turbulence is the biggest factor.
Maybe we can arrange something soon as the short term weather forecast is awful.

That would be good, my location is pretty average has to be said - would love to observe from a really good dark site with the new scope.
