Just after 2300. We had a couple of bangs and I got the camera looking out of the dining room window - took several shots of 8 secs at f5 and this one came up trumps!

Yes, it was really quite sudden and short-lived, but as you see, pretty spectacular! Some distant flashes out to sea now, but the best has been.
Paul.

Seen 3 lightning flashes here last night between 01.30 - 02.00 BST but they were sudden distant events and not good enough to capture. Paul im still amazed by your image, a cracker (to use Johns pun lol) to put up on your website!

Saw the lightning round Bangor too, the camera picked up the flashes but not the forks unfortunately. Well done Paul, amazing image!!!
(Image removed, it was from my 'live' page, so the image changed!)
While we're on the topic of lightning I should mention what happened in Bangor a couple of months ago. I was on my way home in the car and was about half a mile away from home when I saw a massive flash followed almost immediately by an almighty bang! It was so loud and so close I had to stop the car to compose myself! It was like a bomb going off! Anyway it turned out the bolt had hit a house about 100yrds away from mine. It put a hole in the roof and blew off the guttering, luckily noone was injured. Meanwhile in my parents house which is only about 100 yrds away in the other direction, the phone socket blew off the wall and hit my niece in the head. My family were all in the house at the time and said that it was terrifying! They also had to get a new TV as it was blown too. I still have the blackened ADSL filter as a souvenir! My phone was OK but I had to take the batteries out and put them in again b4 it started working. But now it does not register missed calls anymore! The lightning strike was on the local news that night!

Thanks for all the comments on this guys, much appreciated! I've gone back to the RAW, tweaked it up a bit so it's sharper and darker, and put a higher resolution version here..... www.pevans.me.uk/images/storm0607021280.jpgMakes nice wallpaper! Clear skies, Paul.

What a superb image!!! Amazing! You shot that around the same time I saw a very bright flash (like someone taking a picture with flash outside the bedroom window). It was so bright I expected an immediate clap of thunder, but it took over 30 seconds for the thunder to arrive!
An image to be mighty pleased with Paul!
