Gary, you're not being stupid and as you said it's a hell of a learning curve! I did the exact same thing as you when I first used the RDF on my wee Konus, had my eye tight against it and couldn't figure out what the flip I was doing wrong!
Glad you got it sorted.
We should start a thread on the 'silliest' things you've done so far...... I bet I win!!

Veronica, why not use the rdf for one eye, and the finder already on the scope for the other eye? That way you will have a stereo view and therefore it should be even more accurate.

Oh ok It was just your useage of "oh God". Prachett uses that, particulary in "Hogfather" - the oh god of hangovers - which I am currently reading. Sorry to bring this off topic. I'll shut up now
