Another question which will expose my newbieness to the world ..
I have recently aquired an old 35mm Canon EOS camera and I want to attach it to the end of my ETX 70. I have now confused myself over t-mounts,t-rings and all sorts of stuff and I would just like to know .... what do I need to attach this to my scope?

Cheers for that I have ordered the above. I just thought I would try to do the astrophotography thing cheap first before maybe investing further. I managed to get a 35mm Canon SLR for 15 quid from Ebay and the above t-ring and t-adapter cost 25 quid .... so for 40 quid I might get to photo something and I might not ... no huge loss if I dont ...

Gary, I know the feeling - it's utterly confusing!
Let us know how you get on, of course!

Gary do you run out of travel when you are focusing out or in? if it is out focus travel a simple extension tube will sort it out, if it is in focus room that will be trickier

It seems I run out of room just when it is about to come into focus. However last night I attached my 2X barlow and this seems to allow me to focus a lot better now. The frustrating thing about a 35mm camera is the waiting and then finding out you have 36 exposures of smudge .... working on attaching my miniDV camera instead ...

Have ditched the 35mm SLR as it was just costing a fortune to get photo's developed and when you dont even know what your getting it can be an expensive waste of time ..... have a nice compact Fuji Finepix now and a sturdy bracket to attach it ..... seems to do the trick nicely ..

That sounds better. It's too much of a trial and error subject for non-digital work, Gary. You'll make much better progress as you've as many shots as you want. The Fuji stuff is great...very sensitive to low light conditions too.

That's about right for an ETX 70...a bit more experimentation, with maybe a neutral filter for the moon. However I haven't a clue, since I don't do astrophotography!

You got that lovely colour of the crescent moon there, Gary! Your Saturn image is way better than anything I've ever been able to produce. Keep at it as you're off to a good start.

I hope to get a better one of Saturn with my nice new camera .... that one was taken with a huge clunky 5 year old digital camera which has all the dimensions of a house brick and a similar resolution .... it really is nice to be able to put what you see down on film.
I am going off to South America in August (Ecuador and the Galapagos Isalnds) which I would think would be fantastic for photographing the sky. Sadly I do not think there would be much room for even the smallest of telescopes in my baggage though.

Never mind a scope, could you not squeeze me into your baggage?

No, me, me, me! You off just seeing the sights? Am I being too nosey?
