Hey guys, Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm a 45 year old wannabe astronomer. I've been interested in the night sky for most of my life but only decided to do something about it back in Aug 2010. I very quickly got into astrophotography and have been grappling with that ever since. I didn't get much time last year for observing or photography, but hope to get back in the saddle this winter. I'll upload some of my pics to the gallery when I get a sec but in the mean time you can check out my efforts to date on my blog (see below). Current equipment: Bins: Nikon Action EX 10x50 CF Scopes: Skywatcher Explorer 200P, WO Megrez 80 II EP: Revelation Photo-Visual Eyepiece kit, GSO 32mm Super Plossl, Skywatcher Laser Collimator, SkyWatcher 12.5mm Illuminated Reticule Eyepiece Mount: EQ5 (GoTo upgraded) Dew Prevention: Astrozap Flexible Dew Shield & Heater Tapes Camera: Canon EOS 1000D (IR Filter removed self modded) Filters/Correctors: Astronomik Standard CLS Filter, Skywatcher LPF, Skywatcher Coma Corrector AstroBlog:itastro.blogspot.co.uk/p/messier-catalog.htmlLooking forward to meeting up at the next event. I think we could safely say you are past the wannabe stage now Ivan. Those images are excellent.
Welcome aboard the good ship NIAAS.

You're too kind but much appreciated. I guess it's like anything, the more you learn the more you realise how little you know. That's the thrill for me.
Thanks for the warm welcome.

I just noticed you modified your own DSLR .... is that not a crazy and terrifying thing to do? You sir are a brave man ... It sure is crazy, but as the camera was being used solely for astrophotography I wanted to make sure I was capturing all that lovely low-band HA. I don't have a before equivalent of NGC7000 to upload but without the modification, I'd not have captured the HA in this shot: It was a real brown trouser moment when powering it on after the mod, sooooo many people have bricked their cameras doing this. Still, if you take your time it's not too difficult. I've a post on my blog about the process.

I think I'll hang around and wait for a pre-modded one to come up .... I did buy one but it was buggered and I got ripped off.
I have the 600D and really wouldnt even contemplate opening it up ....
