HI All. I am very interested in becoming a member of the NIAAS but I'm unsure which level is best for me. As a beginner I would assume I am not experienced enough to function as a full member of the society or is this not so?? Also, could anyone tell me if there is anything I would miss out on as an associate member? Your help would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Vincent Caddell. Hi Vincent
Membership of the society is open to all levels of knowledge, from beginners to the more experienced. Every person in the society is of equal value, and there is no hierarchy. There is a committee, but that is elected by all the members who attend the annual general meeting every year, and anyone can stand.
You would be more than welcome to come along and join in. Associate membership is for those who cannot get along to the meetings on a regular basis, but who wish to be a member none the less. Full membership entitles the member to attend all monthly meetings at no extra cost. You do not even need to be a member to attend meetings. There is no charge as such, but, as a registered charity, there is a collection bucket to which you can contribute if you wish. All public events and observing sessions are free-of-charge.
Therefore, why not come along to the first meeting on the first Monday in September and see what you think? If nothing else, you will enjoy the talk, "10 ways in which the universe tries to kill you". Make sure you say hello, and come in for a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit afterwards. I hope you will find you are made very welcome.

Thanks Stevie.
I'm really interested in being a member so this was very helpful. Thanks for clearing that up for me. I'll definitely attend the meeting on the first and look forward to it.
Best. Vincent
