Hi Everyone,
As a beginner i need some advice if i should go into viewing sun or wait sometime getting comfortable observing moon/planets/stars? And if its ok (or shall i say not that risky damaging my scope & eyes), what would be the best solar filter for Celestron Nexstar 8SE ( 8" aperture) ?
Many Thanks, Sameer

Hi Sameer
I think it might be a good idea to discuss this with one of us when we meet up.
However, as a quick overview. You can buy solar filter paper and make a filter for your scope. It does not have to be a wide as the full scope, 3 or 4 inches would be more than adequate. Or you could make one for your finderscope (if you have one). The problem is, this type of filter will only show you sunspots, which can be fascinating in themselves if you like that sort of thing. In order to see prominences and flares, you will need a proper dedicated solar telescope, and these are not cheap.
You need to construct the filter with great care, even the tiniest hole could spell disaster. I've never been a great fan of these filters myself. A couple of the guys have solar telescopes, and the views are amazing.
