Hi,
My name is Adrian and I have just got myself a Celestron Astromaster 130 telescope with EQ mount. I also have a Canon 1200d camera and T-ring attachments.
For years I have had passive interest in astronomy mainly a monthly fix of Sky at Night and watching Dara infuriate Professor Cox. I have been doing a bit of amateur landscape and wildlife photography. My wife recently decided to call me out on my pontificating hence the telescope.
I received it last week and have go myself familiar with setting it up etc. I live in the Magherafelt area and probably optimistically hoping for some clear sky this bank holiday weekend to have my first bash at observing.
I'm just wondering what advice you guys have as to what my first targets should be? Any pros and cons on the telescope? Pointers on astrophotography and any general advice?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Adrian, and welcome to the forum.
My main advice for the moment would be to use the telescope and forget about the astrophotography (AP for short)
AP is almost a completely different hobby to observational astronomy, and will be a real drain on your finances to do it properly.
This last few months have been pretty bad for astronomy weather-wise, but this weekend does look hopeful. Since you are in the Magherafelt area, you would not be too far from our main observing site at Newferry, so why not come along for a while. We will be able to show you how to set up and use the telescope, and we'll be able to show you some interesting sights in the sky.
We will probably be at Newferry on Saturday night, all being well, but maybe Friday instead.
If you send me a pm (private message) with your phone number, I will give you a call if we are heading out and will give you directions to Newferry, or suggest somewhere to meet along the way
