Hi I'm new to astronomy but have had an interest for a long time. Both me and my good lady are looking to find out where some of the best dark sky sites are locally. We have been using a skywatcher 130p and a skyliner 250px flex tube dob. So far we have had great views of Jupiter / Saturn from my back garden but had some limited success with the faint fuzzies. Originally due to poor collocation and now I think too much light pollution.
Hoping this will improve in time with a bit more practical knowledge. I've been encouraged to read some of the posts on here and see there is quite a few on here in the same situation and willing to help each other.
Hope to chat to You soon D

Hi, and welcome to the forum. There are a few people from up round your way on here, so hopefully one of them should be along soon to advise on dark observing sites in your area. The 10" flex tube dob is a very nice telescope. Time to put it to work

Hi D and welcome.
I'm from Portrush and some of us head to Dunseverick Harbour because its dark there and we usually have a good nights viewing there but to be honest it's worth driving further to either Killylane or Bragan to join other Society members at our regular observing places.
Killylane is between Ballymena and Larne and Bragan is about 20 minutes outside Clougher.
I've always thought there must be some great places out towards Magilligan without going far enough for the Prison lights to affect viewing, I'm willing to travel over towards you if you know of somewhere.
Ronny.

Hi Ronny
I've been trawling the local area looking. The only really dark places i'v found so far is the top of boviel road near dungiven and grainan fort just over the border near Bridgend ..
I wouldn't mind a drive to meet up with others for the right site. Just need to b fairly sure or great local weather doesn't scupper the whole thing at the end of long drive

Well the forecast is very good for Thursday night so if it remains that way I will be observing somewhere. I'm willing to give it a go. You want to pm me your mobile number?
