HI, I just thought I would say hello and introduce myself. My name's Jonathon (Jonny), and I'm from Larne. I became a member of the society last week, and attended my first meeting on Monday.
I have a keen interest in all the sciences, especially physics which lead to my interest in astronomy; although, sadly I have never done any observing. I mainly read books and articles on astrophysics and get my astronomy kicks from magazines and TV documentaries. However, as well as studying the theory of celestial objects I would like to start doing some observing.
I recently graduated from University and got a job so I'm planning on investing in a telescope and a DSLR (for some astrophotography) soon. Any suggestions are welcome, I read a few of the threads but the suggested Skywatcher Skyliner 200P seems a little to big for me, as I don't have much room to store it. I was thinking about something like this: Celestron NexStar 130 SLT (I like the idea of the electronic object finder).
The Quasar talk on Monday was quite interesting, and more interesting again were the questions raised after the talk. I find this to be one of the most interesting aspects of physics and astronomy, the debates and peoples ideas. I was thinking of creating a thread in the astronomy talk section, to talk about and address some of the unanswered questions from Monday night.
Also, how do you go about getting membership status on this?
Well I have probably bored you enough, I'm looking forward to the next meeting and will hopefully be out observing soon.
