Posted here once before... in 2005 Good to know there is still a thriving local society/community. Never lost the astronomy bug but I guess a passion, rather than a passing interest, has recently flared up again. Used to the light polluted skies in East Belfast I was stunned by looking up when in rural Scotland recently. For the moment however I'll have to content myself with looking between bushes and houses... and trying not to set off the neighbours motion detecting security lights. Was wondering if anyone would have any advice on a new 'scope I'm planning on getting. Currently have a Celestron C6N which is great, but as I want to dip into some light astrophotography I need something which can align without being able to see Polaris... plus I want extra aperture because everyone does:) Trying to decide between a NexStar 8SE and a Celestron C8 SCT VX GOTO. I know the EQ mount on the VX is going to be much better for photography, but having briefly used a NexStar they are so easy to use. Just wondering if anyone had any views. I'm inclined towards the VX as it seems to have everything I need but as I'm a little out of touch any and all advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Sorry I can't offer you any practical advice, I know next to nothing about astrophotography.
However, in your position, I would be inclined towards the VX, as I have been led to believe that the Nexstar is not that great for AP.
It might be an idea to concentrate on the mount, and use the OTA you already have. Maybe you could consider an HEQ5, or even an EQ6
Anyway, welcome back to the forum.
