I was just heading out to set up my telescope for an evenings comet hunting when....
Aurora first spotted at 21.00LT very low in the north through light clouds and clear patches. The aurora was a very intense green band of light at a maximum height of 6 degrees above the northern horizon and 20 degrees long. This was VERY intense in colour but because of its low altitude it may have been missed by many with an obstructed horizon. By 22.00 it had gone completely.
Conor took several expsoures which captured it with ease. This was a nice unexpected suprise!!!
Clear skies!

Well done Martin, you boys have some knack of catching the auroras, I wish I had a decent north view from my house. By the way Martin you guys were great talking about your aurora experiences on the radio.

Neill thanks very much! If i had of known about your new eyepiece at the time then that would have got top priority lol instead of the aurora ....just messing. It was a good experience and alot of fun. The funny thing was that Conors battery was going dead live on air just before the interview. The beeping indicated that we could be cut off at any moment so we had to sprint across my garden jump over the fence into Conors garden then race through his house, up the stairs and into his bedroom to plug the charger into the phone all live lol lol lol lol we only had seconds to spare before the interview began...talk about close! (plus we where out of breath) Thanks again Neill and keep us updated on your new eyepiece.
