At 14:30UT I witnessed a most beautiful rainbow. It was quadruple (four arcs) and at each end the inside edge of the main arc was a vivid blue. The colours were spectacular. I have never seen anything like it before. Just before sunset there were also some nice Iridescent Clouds. I was in a friends house at the time and didn't have a camera to hand, not even film I have just found an image on the web exactly the same as I seen yesterday. Apparently these rainbows are called "Supernumerary Rainbows" and this one was photographed over Boulder Colorado, USA in July 1999. (Image courtesy of Mikolaj & Pawel Sawicki).

That sounds amazing John!!! i would love to have seen that. As far as i now those kinds of rainbows are very rare!

Great photos Martin and great observation John. I didn't get out today so didn't see anything but the observing sessions at Martin's was unreal.
