Just witnessed a stunning sunset from Maghera with bright Crepuscular rays and beautiful colours. Look at the two striking long dark streaks that are the shadows of distant mountain tops being cast into the sky by the setting sun. Also one image shows a strange green colour above the sunset point. Awesome sight! tinypic.com/ei146e.jpgtinypic.com/ei14aq.jpgtinypic.com/ei14bs.jpg

Yip this evening! I was as suprised just as much as you are Amazing colours, the pics do not do it justice. Thats the longest sunset shadow i have ever seen with the exception of books and atmospheric sites (like the website of the month at the min). And that was in a cloudy sky too....havent seen a star since sat night!

Tonights was nice, .... Anyone got any thoughts on viewing tonight (Thursday) ? ? Outside is really clear, yet metcheck says otherwise... and a rain risk ... Does anyone have any conflicting info.. is it worth setting up later tonight ... Thoughts please.

Answering my own question .... the cloud around the moon is very noticable, and even the moon is hard to focus(with an 80mm) with atmosheric conditions tonight... lets hope it improves over the next few nights

Hi Markk
The sky is great from here. I too seen that beautiful colourful Corona around the moon and after moon rise i saw a 5* high lunar pillar. I have been doing some casual observing with the 8" followed by Conor and i trying our hand at some moon imaging with a webcam through a 4.5" reflector. In for a break now but will be out again then one more time before dawn.
Hows everybody else doing? the sky is supposed to be clear for several nights!!

...been watching TV for a while, and sure enough, conditions have improved somewhat, with the cloud almost gone. Now trying to decide whether to get out the scope now, or wait til morning and get up early to see the Orion Nebula ... decisions decisions....
