Actually a bit hazy this evening, but more than made up for by this magnificent halo around the Moon with Mars in close proximity..... Clear skies, Paul.

Beauty Paul. great catch! and thanks for the Pm earlier.
The halo was a beauty, a 22* halo with bands 3 - 4* thick showing red and blue colours and very bright..loved it. Conor took some nice images too with the telescope occulting the moons bright glare!
Paul would you mind telling me what your settings are for the halo?..i could do with the help. I plan on buying a new camera next week for these sort of things.

Now that's a good idea, using a telescope to cut out the Moon's glare. I tried a similar idea using a diffeent bit of scenery like this.... I also tried one with me in the way. It didn't work quite so well :-) Clear skies, Paul.

Martin,
Pic 1 was 18mm f3.5 for 6 seconds @ ISO 800, pic 2 was 18mm f8 for 10 seconds @ ISO 1600. The reason for shutting down the aperture on the second shot was to increase the depth of field so that the top of the tree and the sky would both be sharp - of course the wind moved the tree around over the course of 10 secs, so this was only slightly successful.
What camera are you looking at?
Clear skies,
Paul.
