Hi CoNoR, The bright planet you saw in the South after sunset is Venus. Try to observe it as soon as you can after sunset and see it as a nice crescent. If you give us the time and date of your object in Cassiopeia I might be able to determine what it was.

VENUS?i thought that it would be closer to the sun! anyway, the object occured on thursday (or mabay wedensday)night at approx 11:30...hope that helps!!!

CoNor do you know what part of the sky it was in eg: E, W etc and was it high or low in the sky, what colour, how bright?, stationary?
