There were fires up on Divis Mountain when I came home this evening, the smoke from which looked pretty much like that.

They must be related unless there are fires closer to home around here as well?, i recall several nights ago my sister and i seen fires over the mountains - not surprising considering all this intense heat and sunshine. Visually those clouds were very sandy in colour. First time i have seen these.

Yes, it's probably from the forest fire near Six Towns. The clouds can become a pretty amazing sight, but it's a shame it takes an environmental accident to create them. I've never seen them before in real life either, even though I've lived within sight of Divis Mountain all my life, and there's been countless fires up there (though maybe not on the scale of forest fire size!).

That was a big fire going by the news report. I have never seen clouds of that sandy/dusty colour and texture before in over 10 years of observing...a first for me. I second what you said Veronica - its a pity it takes an environmental hazzard to produce those vivid clouds. Thanks for the feedback.
