At 19:40BST this evening got this beauty of a Sundog in the north west. The colours were very vivid on the inside, red and yellow, and it had a tail on the outside! It must be the brightest I've seen in quite a while, and the image doesn't really do justice to the view visually.

Thanks for the text, i didnt see any sundog from here however there was a partial 22* halo.

John, well spotted. There's a definite tail in that image. I was hoping for a similar display in my neighbourhood but the cloud just got way too thick! Ah well!

This image was taken just after the above sundog, look how many different cloud forms there are.......maybe somebody could count and name them?

Hi all! Been away for a few days and just catching up!
Nice cloudscape John - I'll try my best to identify the clouds!
The wispy ones are cirrus, the little fluffy ones around the top right should be altocumulus floccus (small tufted clouds), the clouds to the left of the image that are slightly larger than the altocumulus floccus appear to be altocumulus with a bit of altostratus underneath; the darker grey clouds may be thicker altostratus or bits of cumulus.
It's hard to judge cloud height from a 2D image and I hope I've not totally misidentified them!
