A sharper alternative would be a Sigma APO of the same spec - quite plentiful on EBay. The APO bit is important at the longer focal lengths - an APO lens is corrected for three colours rather than two and will tend to hold its sharpness better towards the longer end. There's some reviews for Minolta mount versions (so no Canon to compare) here:- www.dyxum.com/lenses/results.asp?IDLensType=3&offset=120HTH P.
