Hi all, I'm interested in coming along to a meeting to avail of your good advice. I've recently got a Meade etx70at, figure there's no point in slaving away on my own and getting mediocre results. I live in Newtownabbey (at the very back where it's actually not too light-polluted). When is the next meeting which would be suitable for me to attend? Cheers, Baz

Hi Baz, and welcome to the EAAS. Our next meeting is on Monday 5th February at the Thompson Primary School right in the middle of Ballyrobert, so just a few miles up the road from you. Look forward to seeing you there - directions, programme etc on out main site www.eaas.co.ukGood to see you have an ETX70 - I have one among my little collection of scopes and love the 70 for its portability - I viewed the total solar eclipse in Turkey through mine last March - also in view of the goto, it's a great learning tool but sooner or later you'll find you need more magnification and more light collection - don't be intimidated by those here talking lovingly about 12 inchers etc - it happens to us all! Cheers, Paul.

Hi Baz, and welcome! Yes, there's plenty of willing people who have plenty of advice, so make yourself known! You should, if you're able, come on out to Killylane for the next viewing session - it's great craic and when the sky's really good, there's so much to see and learn.

Speaking of which, how's this weekend looking weather wise?

I won't swear, but it's looking dire...just for a change Saturday's the best bet with Metcheck forecasting 50% cloud, give or take a few percent. Mind, knowing our luck, that figure'll probably change to 100% pretty soon

Looks like I might get some gaps in the clouds this evening, maybe enough to get a Moon mosaic with the webcam, or another go at Saturn.
Clear skies,
Paul.

Yes, Paul...looks like tonight now has better possibilities than tomorrow night. Might give Killylane a go if it's borne out.

Righto! Killylane looks not too bad - will check the forum later and head on up with Brendan if the gaps come true!

Drizzle all the way home but there are now substantial clear patches in Larne. And of course half a Moon which will probably be my main subject for tonight.
Clear skies,
Paul.

More or less overcast in Lisburn, but sounds promising in Larne. If the clear patches remain/improve up there, myself & Brendan are game on for Killylane. Will keep an eye on here for a while, see if anyone else is heading there.

There's still plenty of clarity here in Larne, however if there's a directional element to the cloud I'd say less of it is over the sea and more of it is inland, so Killylane may not be quite so well off.
Paul.

Stevie and I are going to give Killylane a go, as it's clearing a bit here now, and Neil's thinking of heading up too. We're meeting at 8.30pm
