Hello,
Im from Carrickfergus and new to this game. I hope to be in attendance on Monday evening so I will be able to introduce myself in person.
Has anyone got any advice as to a good telescope to start with. I have to admit that I'm finding the prices quite prohibitive though. I have been observing with the naked eye for some months now and am chomping at the bit to start using a scope or binos.
Thanks in advance,
James

Welcome, James! Best thing to do is have a chat with some of us on Monday. We'll be able to find out what you're interested in, what the budget is, and what you're hoping to do with the equipment. Some scopes are good for general use, some for planets, others for nebulae and galaxies and again others for astrophotography. You'll get good advice and guidance, and you'll be made very welcome if you introduce yourself. You can get a good starting scopes for not much more than £200

Don't be shy guys, say hello to Mark (the one doing all the talking) and he will introduce you to the rest of us. This is the best time of the year for observing, so hopefully we will be able to organise a few sessions in the coming months. You don't even need a scope, just come along and look through Eamon's Lightbridge (everybody else does). See you on Monday.

Heh. We were a Doom metal outfit known as forewarned. Eamonn's son Conor played drums for us. Nobody got to hear any of it due to us having no time or a stable line up. I think we may give it another go though (minus Conor who has gone on to bigger and better things.)
It was nice talking to those of you that I managed to be introduced to. See you next time!!
