Hi all! I'd serious problems on Sat/Sun with the dew, Stevie advised me not to rub it with kitchen roll, just to leave it in the house for a while then use a hair dryer which was great advice but put an end to using it for a while. Can someone give me advice on dew heaters, I'm using an ETX105 if that makes any difference, thanks in advance!

Thanks Eamonn, it's my birthday soon so I may have to smile nicely at the siblings or else get a long extension cable and a hairdryer! Does water and electricity mix well?

Mia the controller is around 60 quid, the tapes are separate but occasionally you can get a bargain. I got a Kendrick dew zapper took a long time but worth it. Alternatively you can go the DIY route but its messier and needs simple soldering - see: www.starcrwzr.com/zapper.htm

Yes dew on a corrector plate is a pain in the back end, Stevie is right never try to wipe it off as it will just smear all over the plate and believe you me that is a real curse to get off. I think most of the dew heater controllers are about £60.
I think BC&F stopped making them a while back you might be able to get a good deal on the remaining stock if anyone has one.

Kryss, thanks for the link but I think I'll pass! I'm not allowed to use a soldering iron ever since I left it on the kitchen lino whilst switched on. I can still remember the smell. Stupid question #46 Before I commit to buying one of these, do they actually work? Has anyone else used one?

Mia I have one which I have to use with the 10" SN and yes they really do work. Mark even has a small heater band to keep his eyepieces dew free, anything with a front lens or plate collects dew like crazy.

Thanks Neil, I'd trouble with the eyepieces and the red dot dewing like mad as well (I don't know if 'dewing' is a verb but anyway!) but I think I'm developing telescope frenzy, I'm looking to buy everything. I need to calm down a bit! One thing I really need advice on is cleaning the eyepieces, they're getting a bit filthy (I think most if it's mascara, have you ever had that problem? ?) I've checked out kits, blowers and a pen (?) at T/scope House but have no idea which to go for! Help please!!

Mia stay away from the pens, if you get a bit of grit on the felt it wil score your eye lens, a blower is a good idea (cheap ones at jessops) for blowing off dust but if it is smears how about following al naglers guide, the owner of televue knows his onions. www.televue.com/engine/page.asp?ID=143I have never had a mascara problem, ask Eamon because his complexion doen't look natural must come out of a tub.

Totally natural, Neil. It's difficult being gorgeous, but I try to cope as best I can. However, last time you drank out of my flask cup, it took me a week to get the lipstick off it.

Mia,
Buy a heater tape only. I am upgrading my Kendrick dew heater controller to a digifire system and you can have it if you want.
