Hi, Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I've been to the last two meetings and throughly enjoyed them. I've been interested in astronomy for years and have owned a scope for about 2 years but never had the time to get into it - until recently.
Since I'm planning on making this a full time hobby I thought I'd better join the society and get registered on the forum.
But...now for the painful bit - a confession. This should make most of the old-hats laugh a bit. At my first meeting (dec) I got a warm welcome and a coffee. No problems. Until I was asked;
1) What my telescope was 2) Whats its aperture 3) What the focal ratio was 4) What eye pieces I had
My responses were;
1) Um...ah...oooh...a refractor - yeah - a refractor 2) Hmmm....6 inch 3) What? 4) Two (yes...I said two)
After getting home I thought I'd better check. Here's what it said on the box;
1) A Newtonian REFLECTOR (sky-watcher) 2) 5.1 inch 3) F/6.9 4) A super (why super??) 10 and 25
Had I been asked what colour the thing was (blue) I'd have answered bright pink. Moreover - I know now why some members were genuinely impressed. A 6" refractor would be nicknamed "the hubble" - wouldn't it.
So...to state that I'm an absolute beginner would be an understatement. I'm planning on going to Killylane tonight. Or at least...I will if I can remember which shoes go on which feet...
Ta, Brian.

Ha ha Brian! Some of us are still at that stage - I'd forgotten where to look through the darn thing (yes, I took the cap off the finderscope which I never use, instead of taking the cap off the bit you put your eyepiece in...couldn't remember how to use the Autostar either!).
Good to meet you last night - cracking night!

Yes, good to meet you again, Brian! It was an excellent viewing opportunity, and we'd some good scopes there, so I hope you enjoyed the night! As I watched you I remembered the days of fighting with EQ mounts, and I'm glad I went down the Dob route!!!!! Anyway...anything you want to know, just fire away, you've met us now, and you're very welcome any time!

Ha ha Brian! Some of us are still at that stage - ;D ;D ;D And proud of it!! I'm glad I've all this to look forward to! I'd a pretty cr@ppy experience with an EQ mount as well, it turned into a windmill with the scope going round and round on it's own........ though that could've been my fault. Nice to meet you again last night Brian! As I said last night, you have to win the award for the best first post ever! I was laughing for ages!
