Greetings! I thought i'd join in the forum and ask internet related questions.
I've got into Astronomy Cast podcast of itunes and have found it fantastic. There was another one Backyard Astronomy, ut the fella's voice drove me to wishing an meteorite would hit my mp3 player.
What other websites do people use?

Hi Brian, it was good to meet you on Monday night. I don't actually listen to any podcasts, I know IFAS do a monthly one. We used to do one, Aaron and Mark did it and I joined them a few times as news reader. It's interesting in a kinda car crash sort of way. BTW, I'm not casting judgement on Aaron & Mark's contribution, just my own! It was pretty obvious I hadn't a clue what I was reading ..... I've obviously learnt a lot since then and now I am so knowledgeable ......... Stop laughing at the back!!

I'm not good with podcasts, as I've nowhere near enough time to listen to them, Brian. Good to meet you, and I'll PM you about collimating your scope later.

I listen to a few. Astronomy Cast is excellent. I'm working my way through their archive at the minute (I've listened to 47 now and they're all top notch). I'd also recommend a few non astro ones. The Sceptics Guide to the Universe is excellent as is Skepticallity and I like Mysterious Universe for a little balance This Week In Science is another good one I've picked up recently. I also get the Seti podcast and Slacker Astronomy but I haven't spent so much time listening to them so I couldn't recommend them (As yet!) Sorry for the rambling Hope this helps some more peeps tune into these shows. The more people who listen the more mainstream podcasting gets.

I'm now known as a bit of a geek by friends as I listen to books and podcasts on my mp3 player! Anyway I have found Astronomy Cast podcasts great for learning about this new universe of information. It's given in a simple way but deals with some very complicated stuff. As this part of the forum is for beginners I highly recommend it. Here's a link to its website or you can subscribe from itunes. www.astronomycast.com/ Topics covered so far have included: a series of episodes through all the planets in the solar system, meteor showers, asteroids, and most recently the hubble space telescope. It's presented by Fraser Cain, publisher of Universe Today, and Dr Pamela Gay, the brains of the outfit! It's well done and pamela has a bed time voice to boot.

Tis FREE!!!
Why I like them too.
Just go to i-tunes download the software and search for astronomy. It will bring up stacks of stuff.
Nasa, Hubble and Spitzer among others have HD video clips that are pretty cool.

Podcasts are usually free but they do tend to grovel loads for donations and recommendations. I know some that have subscriptions for additional content but being a tight arse I just listen to the free ones

Obviously when these load onto itunes, and I synch the ipod it'll then be on the ipod which means I can listen to these anytime!
Excellent!!!

That's right but the episodes are downloaded as mp3 files so any mp3 player can play them. A cheapy mp3 player from tescos will transform a boring drive into a classroom of discovery! (Too much?)

A cheapy mp3 player from tescos will transform a boring drive into a classroom of discovery! (Too much?) No, not at all Brian! You can't beat a bit of eloquent enthusiasm! I'm listening to a talk on Globular (or Glowbular as they pronounce it!) clusters! Excellent! Who needs crappy tv soaps and talentless shows when you can listen to these!
