Hello everyone.
Just a a thread to introduce myself, my name is Andy and I'm based in Newtownards. I'm in my early 30's and have always had an interest in astronomy. At Christmas I was bought my 1st telescope, a skywatchers Mecury 607. It seems very basic from some of the articles I've read online but enough to get me started and working with. Once I get used to it and it starts to limit my use I may see about upgrading.
I am am also a keen photographer but I am no pro and it is just a hobby. I do plan to combine the 2 and have ordered a T-adaptor and ring for my camera.
I am have also started a wordpress blog to keep track and share my observations and photography. I have been meaning to do this for a while for my photography and thought I'd combine both. I may post links and share it from time to time.
At at the start of the week was the 1st time I really used the telescope in anger and to look at anything other than the moon. I was able to find Jupiter and was able to observe it and the 4 biggest moons for some time. I was like a big kid and got very excited and I am looking forward to another clear night with reasonable weather to do some more observing.
Hopefully I will get to know some of you through the forum and if I can may even get to some observations!
Andy

It's great seeing a planet through your scope for the first time, wait till you see Saturn. Could you make out the cloud belts on Jupiter?

Hi mckinstry
Yea I could just about make them out, they were very faint but if you looked hard enough they were there. I studied it for a good 20-30 mins it is quite something. I am looking forward to having a chance to see Saturn!

Welcome to the forum. Saturn is visible in the last hour or so before dawn, but will gradually become visible earlier in the night over the next few months.

Thanks Stevie. I'm normally don't get much time in the morning with the kids though I may save it for next Saturday morning and have an early one.
