Some of you may remember that I had been in contact with a girl who runs an organisation which promotes the Glens of Antrim and the North Coast as a tourist attraction. she had asked if it would be possible to organise an observing night up that way in early autumn.
We have now decided on Thursday 4/9/14, at Ballintoy harbour. The organisation is entirely manned (and womaned!) by volunteers, and it is, apparently, difficult to get them out at the weekends, which is why we chose a Thursday.
I have, of course, told her that it will be totally weather-dependent, but, at this stage, I am asking if you could all consider coming up for the evening, and bringing your telescopes.
I have advised her to try and control numbers attending, as the area is not all that big, and we want to give people a bit of time to have a look at stuff.
I think if we could have between 6 and 10 telescopes on the night, that would be more than enough to let everyone see a few of the sights.
I will mention this at the first meeting of the season, but please put it in your diary now.
Please post here if you will be going, so that I have an idea of numbers. Tea, coffee, and sticky buns will be available.

Thanks to you all guys. Phil has also said he should be there, and hopefully Jonathan as well.
Not sure how many people they will be inviting, Tierna (the organiser) has mentioned 200. I have also contacted the people I visited a few months ago in Portstewart to let them know we will be there
Anyway, I'll update this nearer the time.

I would advise everyone to check back here tomorrow about 5pm to check if we are still going ahead. Weather forecast currently is not favourable!

Well, as Phil said, the forecast is not favourable, with anything between 50 and 80% cloud being forecast, and a small chance of light rain for a while.
However, some people have indicated they will go up anyway, just in case.
My gut feeling is to leave it until Thursday afternoon to make a final call.
I sent an email to my contact yesterday evening, but no reply today.
I'll try and ring them tomorrow morning.
Let me know what you all think.

It would be a long way for you guys to drive up to not get any observing done. But I guess it all depends on whether they are still expecting people to be going and maybe just taking a look at the scopes and getting advice if the weather wasn't on our side. We'll just have to see what they say
