It's been an early Xmas for me. I've received my new scope...a 12" Meade Lightbridge, and I'm very pleased. Extremely well made, verrryyyy big and heavy, and I also got some new lenses. A 17mm Nagler arrived, and I'm waiting for a Nagler 11mm, 7mm, a Panoptic 27mm and a laser collimator and shroud in the next few days. Thanks in particular to Neil "many telescopes" Patterson for all his help and advice, he really helped me with my choices, and I owe him big time.

Will do, Phil, and if you fancy, feel free to come and give it a once over. As I said, it's very well contructed, and a few additions, such as Bob's Knobs and other accessories, such as his stronger mirror support springs and azimuth knob, help deal with the few notable shortcomings. I ordered them from Bob in Indiana on Thursday night and had them first thing monday morning. Some service.

Congrats Eamon, I'm really looking forward to a good old gawk through it at some DSO's, I think the eyepeices you settled on should really suit the scope. You can not go wrong with the naglers and I have looked through derek's 27Pan and it is a corking eyepiece.

Forgive my ignorance... but who is Bob in Indiana?

The manufacturer Of Bob's Knobs. he does a lot of small accessories to make life with telescopes easier, for example, he makes replacements for primary and secondary mirror collimation screws...they can then be adjusted much more easily by hand without screwdrivers and the like. Check his site out at www.bobsknobs.com

That's sounds like a perfect combination of eyepieces and scope and what a scope! I now understand why the weather has been poor for so long this season - so many new members buying new scopes

It's all been dragged down a bit by the discovery that I need glasses. I'm not that badly off, but it'll be a severe blow having my boyish good looks disfigured by apparatus hanging from my ears. I'm gutted.

I don't think I'll be that far behind you Eamonn! My arms are hardly long enough to read the paper now, and I borrowed my wife's recently acquired optics which improved matters immensely!
My scope's not as big as yours, but it has an industrial strength imaging platform which was the bit I really wanted :-)
Paul.

Yes..I thought about it and passed..but I really wanted the mount, as I want something that I can use for my Tals, before taking a sledgehammer to both their horrible mounts.

That on in the left isn't a telescope. It's just a mock-up using carpet inner cardboard tubes and a huge White and Decker drill. Still, I bet it scares the alien spaceships away from Ballymena.

Eamonn, nice one! I gather it's not portable enough to transport to Killylane, or are you also losing your weight-lifting capabilities in your oul age?
I'm very happy for you by the way, and not in any way green with envy. No sir.
Neil, that's a quare pair you have there too...oh I am really missing gawking through a telescope. What I'd give for a clear night and no work the day after!
